MERCEDES CABRAL considers “Ligo na U, Lapit na Me” as her biggest break so far since she plays the female lead opposite Edgar Allan Guzman. Mercedes was born on August 10, 1986. It was Cannes Filmfest best director Dante Mendoza who first got her in “Serbis” that was shown in Cannes. She joined the delegation in Cannes and she was named the most beautiful in the 2008 Cannes Filmfest through online voting by the press people there. Because of that, she was hired by a Korean company to star in the vampire film, “Thirst”, that was also shown in Cannes the next year, 2009, along with Mercedes’ new movie with Mendoza, “Kinatay”, where she played Coco Martin’s wife. Aside from “Ligo na U”, she was also in the hit Cinemalaya award-winner, “Babae sa Septic Tank” doing a cameo role. She also played Japanese actor Jackie Woo’s leading lady in Adolf Alix’ “Liberacion” that was also shown in the last Cinemalaya. She’d next be seen in “Captured”, the new Mendoza movie starring French actress Isabelle Huppert and Sid Lucero.
In “Ligo na U”, Mercedes gives a daring portrayal of a sexually liberated young woman who willingly hops into bed with Edgar, but without any emotional attachments. She has no limitations in their bedscenes and even has a daring shower scene with Edgar. We just feel sad that “Ligo na U” will be shown starting today simultaneously with a big Star Cinema movie, “No Other Woman”, which is surely better promoted and has bigger chances of making it at the tills.
