A LOT OF FOLKS still can’t get over Shamcey Supsup’s landing only as the 3rd runner up in the recent Miss Universe pageant. Maybe it’s because of the Pinoy’s inordinate love for beauty contests. After Lea Salonga admitted she voted for Miss Angola as winner and not our own kababayan, some people are up in arms against her, saying Oprah Winfrey does her better as Oprah allegedly said that Shamcey is more deserving. (But Oprah’s camp has denied she said this.)
There’s even a threat in the senate to investigate Shamcey’s loss. Ha-ha! But the jokes that came out about the pageant are even funnier. It’s said Lea voted for Miss Angola because when she earlier interviewed the black beauty during the prelims, her first question was “When will the sun come out?” And Miss Angola blurted singing: “Tomorrow, tomorrow, it’s only a day away. Annie” Next question: What’s your favorite song? Miss Angola then sings: “You are sunlight and I moon, joined by the gods of fortune, midnight and high noon. Miss Saigon.”
But the funnier jokes are the offers of marriage our beauty queens allegedly got. It’s said Bruno Mars proposed to marry Venus Raj but she declined. She doesn’t want to be called Venus Mars. Shamcey, in turn, got a marriage proposal from the son of former Pakistan head Benazir Bhutto. She also declined. She doesn’t want to be addressed as Mrs. Supsup Bhutto. Don’t tell us it didn’t make you laugh.
