Gerald Anderson challenged on playing a retardate in Budoy

GERALD ANDERSON gets the most demanding role of his career as the mentally challenged hero of “Budoy”, directed by Ruel Bayani who also helmed the hit movie “No Other Woman”. “I feel blessed and honoured that ABS-CBN assigned this project to me but also, may pressure din kasi ako ang title role,” Gerald says. “I’ve done dramas before like ‘Tayong Dalawa’ and ‘Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo’, but we’re a love team then ni Kim (Chiu.) This time, I’m on my own. It’s physically and emotionally taxing to be Budoy, but I’m glad I was given time to prepare by going through immersions with real life Budoys so I can observe them. I saw how they behave and communicate at nagamit ko yun sa taping. Nanood din ako ng movies about special people, like Dustin Hoffman in ‘Rainman’, Aga Muhlach in ‘Nag-iisang Bituin’, Tonton Gutierrez in ‘Saan Nagtatago ang Pag-ibig’, Leonardo Dicaprio in ‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grape’ and Sean Penn in ‘I Am Sam’. That helped me learn how to react properly as a special child.”

Direk Ruel is happy to do an advocacy project like this that will help people understand better the plight of special kids and their parents, just like Laurice Guillen’s “Ipagpatawad Mo” before about autism. Gerald is supported by Jessy Mendiola, Enrique Gil, Tirso Cruz III, Janice de Belen, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Barbara Perez, Dante Rivero, Mylene Dizon, Gloria Sevilla and Christian Vasquez.
