MOTHER RICKY REYES invited us to visit Child Haus, his advocacy that takes care of children afflicted with cancer. We brought food and toys to entertain them, but we’re the ones entertained since they prepared various songs numbers, all of them singing praises to the Lord. “This started when I went to PGH 13 years ago and saw children and their parents sleeping in the lobby and corridors,” he says. “I was told they’re cancer patients from the provinces undergoing treatment at PGH but they don’t have any place to stay here in Manila so they just spend the night in the hospital. I then put up Munting Paraiso for them in PGH and eventually, we were given our own place, Child Haus, at the PCSO office in Quezon Institute by Honeygirl Singson. After 8 years, there was a change in administration at biglang pinalalayas na kami ni Margie Juico. I quickly searched for a new place and found this nga. With the help of Quezon City First Lady Tates Gana we renovated the place at kami mismong nagpintura. We have several rooms where kids and parents can sleep dorm style, plus a library, a playroom and a chapel. Since Child Haus started, we’ve already helped about 7,000 patients referred by various hospitals, including ABS-CBN’s Bantay Bata and GMA-7’s Kapuso Foundation. Only about 40 of them ang mortality kasi naaagapan para gumaling. Maraming taga-showbiz help us. Unang-una si Karylle who the kids consider as their angel as she visits us regularly and even takes them to Timezone. Si Luis Manzano gave us P120,000. Marami na ring stars na nag-birthday rito, latest si Rhian Ramos.”
Our hearts went out to the kids who suffer from different kinds of cancer like leukemia, lymphoma, bone cancer and tumors. One girl has a huge growth on one side of her face that has disfigured it. A six month old baby has a protruding tumor in between her eyes. Another boy has a hydrocephalus head the size of two big watermelons he can’t even stand up because of it. Shirley Pizarro of the Bulletin who was with us cried unabashedly. We promised to pray for the children’s healing regularly. Child Haus is located at 34 Offelia St., Bahay Toro, Proj. 8. If you want to visit and help, you can call Daydee Castillo at 454-8064, or you can deposit your donation directly to Banco de Oro, acct. no. 460-0026-996. The doctor in charge is Dr. Rachel Del Rosario, herself a cancer survivor when she contrated lymphoma when she was 15.
