JON SANTOS IS the first local gay celebrity who admitted he had a same sex marriage with his American partner, West Stuart, in Toronto. “Six years na kaming kasal and we’re still together,” he says. “This year, medyo nahirapan lang kami kasi he’s also assigned to work abroad. So hindi ako basta maka-accept ng work dito kasi sumasama ako sa kanya. Feeling misis ako doon so I go to live with him in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bangkok. Buti nga, he’s now here so I was able to accept the offer of Viva Concerts and my manager, Arnold Vegafria, to do a year end show, ‘Jon to the World’, at Resorts World Manila on December 5 and 6.”
How will ‘Jon to the World’ be different from his past shows? “There will be more music, more singing, more dancing na naka-harness pa ako. This will be a big giant Christmas get-together. A celebrity fiesta as may bago kong impersonations, sina Shamcee Tsuptsup at Charice Penpendesarapen-pengco. Siempre, lalabas din sina Tita Gloring, Krissy, Sherrap Estrada, Tita Midz, and the Queenstar for all Seasons, Ate Vi.”
How many celebs has he impersonated since he started doing it 20 years ago? “Naku, ang dami na. Shamcey is not the first beauty queen I’m impersonating dahil nauna na sa kanya si Dayanara Torres. But I’m now doing Shamcey’s tsunami walk. I’ve done Jolina Magdangal before, Regine Velasquez, Pres. Fidel Ramos, Sen. Miriam Santiago and even foreigners like Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie and now, Apple de Ap who I call Pineapple.”
How does he choose those he’d impersonate? “Siempre, una, kailangang popular sila and there’s a strong public opinion about them. And it’s important also that I like them. Gusto ko rin ng characters that make me sing, like Tita Midz and Charice.”
Who are his favorites among those he impersonate? “Siempre, una si Ate Vi, dahil Vilmanian ako. Pero happy rin ako about Ate Guy’s comeback. Si Ate Vi kasi, for all seasons talaga, from awards season to holiday season, election season, back to school season and even Marco Sison. Ang maganda kina Ate Vi at kay Sheraff, they cross over from showbiz and politics kaya mas colorful sila.”
