THE LATEST celeb reported to be joining the exodus to TV5 is Martin Nievera. At the presscon of his concert with Side A, “All For One”, at the Big Dome on November 11, he admitted he has met twice with Kapatid executives who told him they’re open to whatever shows he’d want to do with them. He remains undecided, even if he’s offered a higher talent fee, as he finds it hard to leave ABS-CBN. He wants to be loyal to them as he knows the Kapamilya network loves him and he doesn’t want to annoy anyone there. But after the game show ‘Twist and Shout’ last year, they haven’t given him any new show.
“In the case of ‘ASAP’, which I started, I’m free to perform there whenever I’m here,” he says. “Parang they can just use me when they need me. I’d really like to do a talk show sana as people tell me they miss it. I don’t know.”
Produced by Viva Concerts and Events, his concert with Side A will kick off Viva's 30th Anniversary Celebration. Their very first project, “P.S. I Love You” starring the Sharon-Gabby loveteam, was shown on Nov. 11, 1981. “I’m excited as this is the first time I’m doing a show with Side A. I like the concept of us combining our repertoire of songs and I also suggested to our director, GB Sampedro, that we sing not just number one hits but also 11 songs with the word ‘one’ in the song titles. Sana, later, magkaroon kami ng U.S. tour.”
He’s the Concert King for almost 30 years now, who does he think should be his successor? “I’d love to see my son Robin succeed me. He’s trying to be original in his style and whole attack of music, and he’s endearing to watch. He’s got the best quality of his mom, Pops (Fernandez), and his dad, me, who else?”
Both Martin and Side A (composed of Joey Generoso, Naldy Gonzales, Ernie Severino, Lee Von Cailao and Ned Esguerra) had their first big hits with Vicor, the music company founded by Boss Vic del Rosario Jr. Since then, Viva has branched out into music, TV, artist management, videos, concerts and events productions. Tickets to “All for 1” range from P400 (gen. Admission) to P3,750 (Patron A), available at all SM outlets and the Araneta Coliseum ticket booth.
