ANOTHER FIL-BRIT athlete is joining showbiz after the Younghusbands. His name is Garreth Leslie Holgate, Gaz for short, a member of the Philippine Volcanoes rugby team. His mom, Lourdes de la Rosa, is from San Fernando, Pampanga. His dad is from Wales. Born on December 3, 1987 in St. Asaph, Denbighshire, he first played with the Philippine rugby team in 2007 at SEA Games.
As a boy, he spent his vacations with his relatives in Forbes Park and that’s where he met Solenn Heussaff who now supports his efforts to join showbiz. Solenn introduced him to her own manager, Leo Dominguez, who now also manages him. Standing 5’11” and weighing 86 kgs., the first thing you notice with Gaz is his hunky physique. He doesn’t mind posing for underwear ads. He admits he has a Greek-Brit girlfriend in Wales but still, he has a crush on Lovi Poe after seeing her fotos and wants to meet her in person. What about Solenn?
“Oh, we’re just childhood friends. While I’m here, I’ll shoot a music video with her. Filipinas are really beautiful,” he adds. He’ll also do a surprise number in “Party Pilipinas” this coming Sunday. He admits one hindrance is he speaks very little Tagalog. “Mahal kita,” he laughs. “But I’m willing to learn.”
Gaz will do some charity work while he’s here. He’ll give donations to a school in Buayang Bato, Mandaluyong with National Bookstore Foundation and entertain street children of Hope of Asia at SM Masinag on October 9, Sunday.
