OGIE ALCASID seems so driven these days. He’s doing comedy in “Bubble Gang”, hosting “Protege” and is now doing a daily soap in “Daldalita” as Jillian Ward’s father.
“Pasensiya na, matindi ang pangangailangan, manganganak ng misis ko, e,” he says. “Tapos, mahina pa ang OPM.”
Ogie is current president of OPM (Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit) and he says many Filipino musicians and singers are reeling since the industry is down these days. “May mga tumanggap na ng trabaho abroad, may nagtitinda na lang ng aso,” he sighs. “Our aim is to rekindle the public’s love for local music para pasiglahin ito uli.”
To do this, they’re holding the OPM Fair 2011 starting at 8 AM on Tuesday, October 11, at the Quezon Memorial Circle in cooperation with Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, Mayor Herbert Bautista, the Armed Forces, Pagcor, Puregold, Tanduay, Intel, Dr. Vicki Belo. 300 singers and musicians will participate in the whole day affair and everyone can go as the admission is free. Themed ‘Ang Himig Natin Noon at Ngayon’, it features a music trade fair with CD launches and sale, videoke competition and the chance to duet with your favorite singers. There’ll also be performances by choirs, marching bands, rondallas, and rock bands. There’ll also be government agency booths offering public services and an evening gala concert with top OPM singers. The first Dangal ng OPM Awards will also be given to pioneers and trailblazers in OPM: APO, Freddie Aguilar, Nora Aunor, Asin, Jose Mari Chan, Pilita Corrales, Juan de la Cruz Band and Hotdog, all living icons with great contribution to OPM. The awarding will be the opening rites of the OPM Fair at 8AM. Aside from Ogie, other officers of OPM are Noel Cabangon as VP for external affairs, Christian Bautista as VP for special projects, Dingdong Avanzado as secretary, Jomari Chan as treasurer, Mitch Valdes as chairman. For inquiries, visit the OPM website at opm.or.ph or call them at 576-5069.
