PIA GUANIO was interviewed live on the phone by “Showbiz Central” co-hosts Raymond Gutierrez, John Lapus, Rufa Mae Quinto and Jennylyn Mercado last Sunday. When asked if it’s true she already got married, she said: “Yes, ikinasal na ako.” She said it’s a small quiet family affair held on Saturday, October 1 held inside a tent they put up on the garden of the house of her groom Steve Mago’s parents in Ayala Alabang. Even her colleagues in “Showbiz Central, “Eat Bulaga” and “24 Oras” didn’t know about it.
“We just wanted it to be very private, very intimate,” she said. “We wanted to concentrate on the blessing. We don’t want any distractions. We held it at the time Typhoon Quiel was raging but when the guests started coming, the rains stopped suddenly. Ibang klase yung gift ni God. Kapag may approval Niya, things go as planned.”
They were married by Pastor Paulo Punzalan, son of the late Helen Vela and Orly Punzalan and brother of actress Princess Punzalan. The pastor’s wife, Jenny, conducted first a marriage preparation seminar for them. “It was very solemn, very meaningful and very helpful,” she added. “The preparation for the wedding happened only in a couple of days, but in terms of preparing ourselves spiritually for it, it took about one month. We prepared for the marriage, not just the wedding.”
Pia is a member of the Victory Christian Fellowship and, to marry her, Steve had to convert from being Catholic to being Christian. Did she become emotional?
“Earlier, I was telling Steve’s yaya to look after him at baka umiyak yung alaga mo,” she said. “But it turned ako palang iiyak, akong humagulgol from start to finish and, because of that, lahat, umiyak na rin, pati mommy and daddy ko. We had less than 50 people as guests and there wasn’t a dry eye.”
She said she’s aware her showbiz friends feel bad that they were not invited to the affair but she said there will be a bigger church wedding next year. But it’s not going to be in Italy where they earlier planned to have a beach wedding at the Italian Riviera. This is because Steve’s sister is pregnant and if they’d hold it there, it would be during the fall season, which is already cold and not fit for a beach ceremony. To Pia and husband, our best wishes and congratulations!
