THE CINEMA ONE ORIGINALS filmfest unreels today at Shangrila Cinema. The ten entries that got a seed money of P1 million each are:
“Ka Oryang” - Alessandra de Rossi, Emilio Garcia and Joem Bascom star in the story of a female political detainee during the turbulent days of martial law, directed by Sari Dalena.
“Anatomiya ng Korupsyon” - Maricar Reyes and Sid Lucero star in this biting social satire set in the ’80s written for the stage by Malou Jacob and adapted for the screen by Dennis Marasigan.
“Mga Anino sa Tanghaling Tapat” - Directed by Ivy Baldoza, this is a visually atmospheric story about a woman’s mystical journey to her hometown to discover herself and her mother’s sensuous past.
“My Paranormal Romance” - Directed by Victor Villanueva, this is a Visayan teenage horror-comedy about student Merry Pascual who, after being hurt by past love affairs, receives a mysterious item that attracts things paranormal.
“Six Degrees of Separation From Lilia” - A day-in-the-life of long time “dakilang extra” Lilia Cuntapay by writer-director Antoinette Jadaone. The film shows what Cuntapay thinks and dreams of to amuse viewers.
“Big Boy” - An experimental coming-of-age movie about a boy molded by his parents to be their desired poster boy for their cod liver oil business in Mindoro, helmed by Shireen Seno.
“Sa Ilalim ng Tulay” - A unique comedy-drama from director Earl Bontuyan about an Aeta family whose decision to move to the city was met by a string of trials and tribulations.
“Sa Kanto ng Ulap at Lupa” - Award-winning writer-producer-director Mes de Guzman (“Kalimugtong”) creates a film that revolves around a multi-ethnic group of kids who loot rugby from a nearby hardware.
“Cartas de la Soledad (Letters of Solitude)” - Writer-producer-director and cultural heritage conservationist Teng Mangansakan II tells about a reclusive man who spent over 25 years in Barcelona, Spain studying and working, then returns to Mindanao with his idealism and dream of improving the lives of his people.
“Di Ingon Nato (Not Like Us)” - A Visayan horror film about how people in a far-flung barangay deals with zombie infestation by religion, superstition and science, by Brandon Relucio and Ivan Zaldarriaga.
Take note that seven of the films are by first time directors: “Ka Oryang”, “Anino sa Tanghaling Tapat”, “My Paranormal Romance”, “Sa Ilalim ng Tulay”, “6 Degrees of Separation”, “Big Boy” and “Di Ingon Nato”, with four of them females: Sari Dalena, Shireren Seno, Ivy Baldoza and Antoinette Jadaone.
For this Wednesday, the sked is “Sa Kanto ng Ulap at Lupa” at 4:45 PM, “Anatomiya ng Korupsiyon” at 7 PM, and “Di Ingon Nato” at 9:30 PM.
