Controversial Wonder Gays Say They'Re Not 'Ingrata' Like Vice Ganda

THE WONDER GAYS are often accused of being fake. “Nagbabakla-baklaan lang yata ang iba sa inyo,” says one writer at their presscon for their new concert.

The member called White, Joe Saligumba in real life, quickly admitted he’s the one often suspected as straight because he has four children with three different women. “Noon yun, lalaki pa ko,” he says. “I’m from Loboc, Bohol, and I came to Manila in 1997 due to family problems. Naranasan kong matulog sa bangketa sa Farmer’s. Tapos nakuha kong macho dancer, naging callboy ako. Doon nga ako nagkaanak sa iba-ibang babae, pero na-realize ko, ang puso ko talaga, para sa kapwa ko lalake.”

Their manager Lito de Guzman and publicist Danny Batuigas swear all the members (Pink, White, Blue, Black, Green and Gray) are all certified gays. “They all started at standup comics in my resto bar in Cavite kaya alam ko mga bading talaga sila,” says Lito. “Big hit ang first concert nila sa Zirkoh last October kaya we have another one, ‘May Nag-Tweet, Har-Har-Har’ at Library Malate, for two days pa, November 30 and December 1. They will have different guests this time, including the hot dance trio of Luningning, Mariposa and Milagring na makaka-showdown nila, with the special participation of Jeanette Joaquin, Blanktape, Alvin Fortuna and Dennis Coronel of The Man, and my latest alaga, teen singer Raia Quiroz. Kasama rin nila para landiin ang hunks na sina Polo Ravales, Ahron Villena, Frank Garcia and Rowell Quizon. Happy talaga ko sa Wonder Gay kasi very successful na sila. They’re album, ‘BlindItem’, is now gold and continues to sell well in various outlets. I’m confident 2012 will be bigger for them.”

Someone asked if they’d also leave their manager when they become very successful like Vice Ganda who left Ogie Diaz. “Hindi kami ingrata,” they say. “Di namin iiwanan si Mama Lito kasi binago niya ang buhay namin. Marunong kaming tumanaw ng utang na loob. Sabi ni Vice, respetuhan lang naman yan, bakit di niya nagawang respetuhin si Ogie?”

A top performer who saw them said White will be the next Vice. What can the others say about this? “Wala kaming inggitan kasi wala kaming insecurities. Ang tagumpay ng isa, tagumpay rin naming lahat.” For tickets to their shows, call Lito de Guzman Productions at 441-1276, 413-6791 or 0923-899-7172 and ask for Connie or Maricon.
