Eugene Domingo: 'I Made It To The Oscar'

EUGENE DOMINGO just returned from the Hollywood screening of “Babae sa Septic Tank” for the Hollywood Foreign Press. “I made it to the Oscar, yes, nakapasok na ko sa Oscar,” she says. “Sa building ng Oscar, ha. Yung office ng Academy Awards. I walked on their red carpet.” So what’s the feedback from the people who handle the Golden Globes? “Their reaction is very positive. They laughed at the same scene where local viewers also laughed. About 30 members watched, iba-ibang nasyon. May Japanese, Korean, European, and others. They genuinely liked it. Gustong-gusto nila yung three types of acting. Ang taas ng energy after the screening. Some of them were telling me, ‘See you in January’, the month when the Golden Globes are held. Very encouraging, di ba? A member even told me that I should prepare a portfolio of my works then get an agent in the U.S. Pero hindi yata yun part ng illusion ko. Siguro, if I were younger, I might. Gusto ko lang ma-nominate man lang kami as one of the five finalists sa Golden Globe at sa Oscar. Okay nay un.”

Eugene is the only actress with three entries in the Metro Filmfest. She supports Ryan Agoncillo in “My Househusband” and Ai Ai de las Alas in “Enteng ng Ina Mo”. In “Shake, Rattle & Roll 13”, she plays the lead role in the “Rain Rain Go Away” episode. “Its former title is ‘Lunod’ but Direk Chris Martinez says it’s a giveaway so binali niya at ginawang ‘Rain Rain Go Away’. You’d think it’s a comedy but it’s a serious suspense-drama. Mag-asawa kami rito ni Jay Manalo and we own a plastic factory. Some kids drowned in it during Ondoy and they return to haunt us."  According to Mother Lily this is Shake Rattle and Roll 13 is the highest budgeted Shake Movie.

Lulunuring isa-isa ang family namin led by Boots Anson Roa and Edgar Allan Guzman. I’m so happy to be part of this kasi no. 13 na ito and Mother Lily says last na raw in the series. After we did the ‘Gunaw’ episode sa ‘Valentine Girls’ in February, inalok niya kong sumali sa ‘Shake’ at heto nga, I’m so proud of our episode.”

She has won two best supporting actress awards in the Metro Filmfest, for “Bahay Kubo” and “Ang Tanging Ina Mo Rin”. We tell her she’s sure to be nominated again in this year’s festival: as best supporting actress for ‘Househusband’ and as best actress for ‘Shake 13’.
