JM DE GUZMAN denies that his rise to stardom, now that he’s playing the title role in “Angelito, Batang Ama” that starts airing tomorrow in Kapamilya Gold, is very fast, making other ABS-CBN actors envious of him. “I started as a child actor when I was six,” he says. “First sa TV commercials then sa ‘Ang TV’. I did a lot of indie films, then ABS got me to do a supporting role in ‘Midnight Phantom’ where I was first paired with Charee Pineda. Then I did supporting roles also in ‘Alyna’ and ‘Kristine’ before I was made one of the leading men in ‘Mula sa Puso’, with Charee again. Then I did the hit ‘Babae sa Septic Tank’ at heto nga, itong ‘Angelito’ na. So pinaghirapan ko rin naman ito. But I really want to thank ABS for trusting me and I promise to give my best para mapaganda ang show.”
Elizabeth Oropesa, who plays JM’s grandma in the show, attests to his dedication to his craft. “Nakita ko, hilahod na siya sa pagod but he didn’t want to stop working even if he almost collapsed out of fatigue,” she says. “I admire his good attitude sa trabaho niya. At napakagaling niya umarte. Lahat ng mga batang kasama ko rito, mahuhusay sila at magagalang, they listen, kaya malayo ang mararating nila.”
As Angelito, JM plays a high school student reared by his lola along with sister Devon Seron. His plan for a brighter future crumbles when he gets classmate Rosalie (Charee) preggy. Also in the cast are Kaye Abad as JM’s neighbour who loves him even if she knew he’s in love with Charee, Matt Evans as Charee’s brother, Tom Rodriguez as a rich kid in love with Charee, Felix Roco as JM’s friend, Sam Concepcion as Devon’s love interest, and Snooky Serna and Al Tantay as Charee’s parents. ABS is obviously banking big on JM. Take note that Matt, Tom, Felix and Sam have all played leads before but they are now just supporting stars to him.
