STAR MAGIC’s Thess Gubi feted their talents who made waves in Singapore: Thou Reyes who’s in “The Kitchen Musical” and child actresses Nikki Samonte and Mica Roi Torre who were in “The Lion King” shown at the plush Marina Bay Sands. Thou started as a child actor in “Ang TV” using his first name, Joseph. “Ka-batch ko sina Tom Taus and Carlo Aquino,” he says. “Then I focused on my studies and am now a registered nurse. I was teaching anatomy to caregivers when Star Magic got me again. Nasa Star din si Joseph Bitangcol so I used Thou, from my second name, Thousand, in my comeback.”
He got his African-American color from his mom who has a black ancestor. “I have three siblings na iba ang kulay sa’kin.” He’s best known as the colorful gay Hugo in “Betty La Fea” and as the vampire Rafael in “Imortal”. He took the “Kitchen Musical” audition in March and he thought he didn’t pass it. “It took a while before I was informed. When they did, I was in Dubai pa. But I enjoyed doing the show with a cast of actors with different nationalities. Kaming mga Pinoy ang pinakamasaya dun and we bring happy hormones on the set. I was originally cast as a dishwasher pero dahil sa galing ko sumayaw, I became one of the chefs. They say I’m the best dancer in the group so they always put me in front so the others daw can absorb my energy. We rehearse the numbers for two days before the shoot so there’s no chance for us to make mistakes.”
He’s hoping he’d be cast in the show’s season 2. Meantime, he just finished “Enteng ng Ina Mo” with Ai Ai de las Alas and “Dance of the Steel Bars” with Dingdong Dantes.
