Vice Ganda's season to bloom and shine

THE WAY THE public has embraced Vice Ganda is just magical. For them, it’s like he can do no wrong. No matter how passé or corny his jokes might be, they still laugh at whatever he does. No doubt today is “panahon niya, oras niya”, the time of his life, so it’s no wonder all his projects, whether on TV like “Gandang-Gabi Vice”, or on the big screen like “Petrang Kabayo” and the current “Praybeyt Benjamin” are big hits. Viewers obviously enjoy the way he makes sarcastic remarks that humiliate or make fun of people he interacts with, just like what he does before in comedy bars.

“Praybeyt Benjamin” is said to have raked in more than P150 million in its first week of showing alone and people are flocking to it because of him, not because it’s an exceptional movie because it’s certainly not. He simply carries the entire movie. People just keep laughing on the jokes and gags involving him even if they not really that funny.

As a matter of fact, some of the jokes are absurd and impossible. How can a limp-wristed gay defeat an entire army of terrorists even with the help of fantasy gadgets like utot gun and a tiara that’s more deadly than an Uzi? In one scene, Vice even flies like Mary Poppins with the help of a magic umbrella. Everything, no matter how corny, the audience buys, just as long as Vice, the first admitted gay who becomes a box office star, performs it. That’s how much they adore, worhsip and dote on him. Plain and simple, it’s the season of Vice Ganda and you just have to accept that.
