GOVERNMENT FOLKS keep on saying we should be more aggressive in selling our country abroad to attract more tourists. No doubt, our country has more beautiful sights to offer than other Asian countries, but unless we improve air traffic and infrastructure, we’d never get them. Last weekend, we visited our daughter Hannah and her family in Cagayan de Oro City. On the way there, we waited for about 15 on the runway before our plane was given the go signal to take off. Even worse is coming back to Manila. We were hovering over Batangas for 40 minutes before we’re allowed to touch down due to heavy air traffic. You don’t see this happening in airports in Hongkong, Bangkok, Singapore or elsewhere.
Add to that the fact that NAIA 1 is one of the worst and most hated airports in the world due to its deplorable services facilities. When we went out of Terminal 3 to get an airport cab, the lines were about two blocks long. They should allow other public cabs to also service the arrival area so as not to waste the time of incoming travellers who wait for about 30 to 40 minutes before they can get an airport cab.
