Dingdong Avanzado Celebrates 25Th Anniversary In Showbiz

DINGDONG AVANZADO is celebrating his 25th anniversary in showbiz next year and he started this with a countdown concert at Zirkoh Bar last Thursday night with the launch of his new album, “Dingdong Avanzado: Download-The 25th Anniversary Songbook”. “It’s my manager, Noel Ferrer, who told me it’d be nice to celebrate my silver year with a new album since my last one was almost a decade ago,” he says. “He challenged me to write new songs for the album to help counter the decline of new OPM songs in the market. It made me realize I have so much more to offer after 25 years.”

Dingdong’s first hit as a singer-songwriter was “Maghihintay Sa’Yo” 25 years ago. His “Paalam Na” won the Awit Award for best ballad and 1995 song of the year. His other hits are “Much Longer” and “Wish I Could”. His new album has 16 songs and he collaborates with various artists: with Sharon Cuneta in a duet of “Maghihintay Sa’Yo”, Rachel Alejandro in “Paalam Na”, Juris in “Much Longer”, Gloc 9 in “Limutin Ka” and Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez and Noel Cabangon in the title cut, “Download”. He also duets with wife Jessa Zaragoza in “The Moment I Found You” and daughter Jayda in “Daddy’s Day”. Also included are the wedding songs he wrote for Ogie-Regine, “Iibigin”, and for Rachel and husband Carlos Sta. Maria, “The One”, plus a Christmas version of “Wish I Could”. Other great cuts are “Panahon Na”, “Pangarap” and “Hanggang sa Muli”.

Dingdong was only 18 when he zoomed to fame in 1987 with hits like “Tatlong Bente Singko” and “Basta Kasama Kita”. He’s now 43 but still looks boyish. “I got fat while we were in the States. Overweight ako ng 20 lbs. so I had to lose it when I got back. I also now have a regular band, the D.A. Band who performs with me.”

He was once a QC councilor. Will he go back to politics? “Not in the near future. Ang lakas ng stress factor nun, e. I want to focus muna on music as there’s so much music left in me.”

It was rumored that Dingdong Avanzado's marriage to Jessa Zaragoza is on the rocks. Find out about the real score between Dingdong and Jessa.
