MARICEL SORIANO’s last film was Regal’s “Bahay Kubo” for which she won the 2007 Metro Manila Filmfest best actress award. She now stages a comeback in Regal’s new filmfest entry, “Yesterday Today Tomorrow”, the only family drama in this year’s Metro Manila filmfest. She sizzles in her performance as a TV executive who’s successful in business but a failure as a mom to her daughter, Eula Caballero, and had a failed marriage with husband Gabby Concepcion. If she’d win again, this would be her fourth filmfest best actress award as she also won the same honor in 1997 for Chito Rono’s “Nasaan ang Puso” and in 2003 for Joel Lamangan’s “Filipinas”.
“Naku, hindi ko iniisip yun,” she says. “Basta thankful ako to be given the chance to be a part of this big project with a big cast. I’m really always happy to get the chance to work with new stars like Eula as my daughter, Solenn Heussaff as my half sister, Lovi Poe as my sister in law na asawa rito ng brother kong si Jericho Rosales, and Carla Abellana as my rival over Gabby. I feel so blessed working with them as they’re all hardworking. Maganda experiences ko with them kasi mababait sila at magagaling. Also, kasundo ko ang director naming si Jun Lana. Iba na siya since he directed me in that movie for Gawad Kalinga about the landslide in Leyte.”
“Yes,” Direk Jun Lana quips, “mas maganda ako ngayon.”
To which Marya wholeheartedly agreed.
