The Year in Review 2011 - Part 3:The Controversies, Scandals And Feuds Of 2011

SHOWBIZ won’t be showbiz without the controversies and scandals. One of the ugliest fights involved Laguna board member Angelica Jones and humanitarian Illac Diaz. Angelica said they’re exclusively dating but Illac denied this vehemently. This got worse when Illac accused Angelica with malversation of funds intended for the construction of new public schools in Laguna. They have since filed cases against each other in court.

Then there’s the Marian Rivera and Heart Evangelista conflict that started in Laoag City while they’re filming “Temptation Island”, allegedly because Marian got jealous of Heart. Cristine Reyes felt she’s being alluded to by Sarah Geronimo’s comment on dancers and sexy girls, leading to the revelation that Sarah went steady with Rayver Cruz who’s now with Cristine.

Feuds this year include that of Jobert Sucaldito versus John Lapus (they filed libel cases in court against each other), DJ Mo versus Ogie Diaz, talent manager Ricky Gallardo versus Wenn Deramas (who felt Ricky discriminated against his ward DJ Durano), Wenn Deramas versus Alfonso Martinez (son of Albert, who made comments after Wenn in “Tanging Ina Mo Rin” defeated his dad in “Rosario” as best director in the Metro filmfest), Mother Lily and talent manager Arnold Vegafria after Arnold made Carla Abellana do ‘Manila Kingpin’ without notifying Regal with whom she’s under exclusive contract, and Director Tikoy Aguiluz asking his name be deleted from the credits of “Manila Kingpin” after it was re-shot and re-edited without his blessing.

Other scandalous events involved Maricel Soriano being accused by two of her maids of abusing them verbally and physically. But Maria chose to just keep quiet about it, the same with Sid Lucero after being accused by a hardware store salespersons of being abusive to them.

Actor-director Ricky Rivero was repeatedly stabbed in his condo by his own lover. Ms. Earth Karla Henry also stabbed in her own condo by a drunken man. Nadia Montenegro sued Annabelle Rama of child abuse and falsification of documents. Annabelle filed counter-charges of attempted kidnapping and theft against Nadia.

Ethel Booba, still self-destructing after her short lived bout with fame, set her own rented condo unit on fire after finding out her lover is gay. She was booted out and made to pay damages.

The viewing public raised a furor when a six-year old boy called Jonjon Suan danced like a macho dancer in “Willing Willie”. Willie had to take a leave of absence after his show got suspended and TV5 management issued guidelines for him. When he came back, the show’s title was changed to “Willtime Big Time”.

Cherry Pie Picache complained that Baron Geisler took advantage of her while taping a show. Baron eventually said sorry, went into rehab, and claims he’s now a changed man. Other stars who went to rehab are former child actor Jiro Manio and former Manila councilor Cita Astals (diagnosed to have bipolar syndrome.)

Four Azkal players led by Neil Etheridge were put into hot water after single mom and model Amanda Coling complained that he molested her but she was accused of just wanting to get into showbiz after having herself interviewed in various showbiz talk shows. She never filed a formal complaint.

Beth Tamayo was reported to be the Pinay drug mule who was sentenced to death in China. Beth denied this and is now even in the cast of Pokwang’s “A Mother’s Story”.
