RICHARD GOMEZ and Dawn Zulueta became an item in 1991 when they were paired in “Hihintayin Kita sa Langit”, the adaptation of Emily Bronte’s “Wuthering Heights”. They also did “Iisa Pa Lamang” and “Saan Ka Man Naroroon” then they broke up in 1993. Now, they’re reunited in ABS-CBN’s own take on “Wuthering Heights”, “Walang Hanggan”, topbilled by Coco Martin and Julia Montes. Their fans no longer hope they would rekindle their past affair as everyone knows they’re now both living blissfully with their respective spouses, Ormoc Cong. Lucy Torres (with Julianna as their daughter) and Davao Cong. Anton Lagdameo (they have two kids.)
Dawn says they broke up after she got jealous of the other women being linked then to Goma (she won’t say anymore who they are) and it took her about two years before she got over their relationship. She married Cong. Anton in 1995 while Richard married Lucy in 1996. What’s the reaction of their respective spouses on their being paired anew?
“Lucy is excited,” says Goma. “She told me even then that she’s a fan ng love team namin ni Dawn.”
“She even sent me a text message saying she’s excited to see Richard and I together again on screen,” adds Dawn. “As for Anton, he’s very supportive when I returned to acting. I don’t neglect naman my duties to him as a wife and to our kids as a mom, so okay lang sa kanya. I make it a point I don’t tape on weekends kasi family time yun.”
So how is it to be acting with Dawn again? “It’s very challenging,” says Goma. “Napakagaling na artista ni Dawn so you have to level up. But it helps that we’ve maintained our friendship so we’re comfortable with each other.”
They accepted doing “Walang Hanggan” right away because it’s a beautiful love story involving three generations. The first one involves Susan Roces, Eddie Gutierrez and Helen Gamboa. The second generation involves Richard, Dawn and Rita Avila. The last one revolves on the younger stars Coco, Julia, Paulo Avelino and Melissa Ricks.
