NIKKI GIL is our favorite musical theatre actress after her knockout performances in such plays as “Legally Blonde” and “Sweet Charity”. She now plays her first villain role as Empress Schuck’s evil sister in “Mundo Man ay Magunaw”. Did she have second thoughts about accepting it?
“I asked myself, kaya ko bang magkontrabida?” she says. “Siempre, I’ve never done it before so there’s a bit of reluctance, but then, I thought, I’m an actress and it’s something new for me, so I should accept new challenges like this.”
The role of the mean girl Jennifer who makes life miserable for Empress is definitely not her. “As a girl, even my friends can attest na I was never involved in a fight. Tahimik lang ako, e. But I realized I really want to do offbeat roles like this. Gusto ko talaga, magalit sa’kin ang viewers dito, as that means I‘m an effective villain. I watched a lot of films na may memorable contravidas to know more about the craft. I’ve never been a bitch in my life but this time, ibang Nikki Gil ang makikita nyo.”
Did she hesitation slapping Empress in the show? “Naku, kinausap ko muna siya kasi naiilang ako. I told her I don’t know the art of slapping on cam para hindi masyadong makasakit. Eventually, sabi ko, I might learn how to control it. She said okay lang sa kanya and that’s the beauty of working with a true professional like her na willing masaktan para sa ikagaganda ng show.”
In a recent episode of “ASAP”, we heard she was also a mean girl to Melissa Ricks as she forced her to kiss Jake Cuenca with whom she had a bad breakup. “That’s true, tinukso ko siya to kiss Jake, but that’s all in the script. Birthday celebration nilang dalawa yun at nakasulat talaga sa idiot board to urge her to kiss Jake. But when I learned she felt bad about it and cried, I approached her and I told her na sana, she’d understand that it’s all part of the script. She said, nabigla kasi siya, dapat daw, she should have been informed first. Siguro nakalimutan ng production staff to warn her. But it’s definitely not my fault. Ayoko rin namang mapahiya ang kapwa ko artista.”
