Pokwang's 'A Mother's Story' Supported By Ai Ai De Las Alas And Eugene Domingo

THE RED CARPET screening of “A Mother’s Story”at Trinoma was a star-studded affair as Pokwang was supported by her co-stars in ABS-CBN’s Star Magic. Johnny Manahan and Mariole Alberto of Star Magic were there to show their full support in Pokwang’s launch to full stardom, along with the film’s cast: Daria Ramirez as her mom, Nonie Buencamino as her husband, Rayver Cruz, Aaron Junatas and Xyriel Manabat as her kids.

Colleagues Eugene Domingo and John Lapus came together. Ai Ai de las Alas showed up in the middle of the film. Also in attendance were Gerald Anderson, Jed Madela, Erik Santos, Richard Poon, comedian Pooh, Bugoy, Direk Wenn Deramas, DJ Durano, and many other stars. The standout was Marian Rivera, who arrived with her “Amaya” co-star Ana Feleo (daughter of Laurice Guillen). Marian came in unnoticed and sat quietly near the back but camera crews eventually followed her when her presence was acknowledged by host Eric John Salut. She said she was there to show her support for her Ate Pokwang, who became her good friend after they did “Super Inday and the Golden Bibe” in the 2010 Metro Filmfest.

You’d think “A Mother’s Story” is a comedy since Pokwang is better known as a ribtickler but it’s actually an unabashed tearjerker. Writer-director John-Dy Lazatin makes a fairly impressive feature film debut in this melodrama about a mother who worked as a TNT in the U.S. (Tago ng Tago) for seven years, with her eldest son getting alienated from her in the process. More about the movie later.
