PAOLO BEDIONES is very much energized by his new show on TV5, “Extreme Makeover Home Edition”, a hit show in 185 countries that now has its local version that renovates the homes of less fortunate families. He’s aided by his five co-hosts in his Design Team: the irrepressible Tessa Prieto Valdes as interior designer for special projects, Marilen Faustino Montenegro (wife of Hans Montenegro) as design consultant-stylist, international finance expert Joby Belmonte as purchaser of the materials they need, model Divine Lee as the project manager, and Tristan Javellana as in charge of carpentry. All of them went through a series of auditions before they became of the show.
We ask Paolo what’s the good and the bad side of his co-hosts. “They each have their own distinct personality, pero tama ang timpla nila sa isa’t isa,” he says. “Marilen has a good eye for detail but laging nabubuntis. When we started planning for the show in late 2010, she’s not pregnant yet. Now, she’s about to have her second baby kaya laging nagpa-pump ng milk niya doon sa loob ng aming bus. Joby is mabusisis but fast worker in choosing the things he’d buy for the project, but he’s diabetic kaya pag gutom na, sumusungit, nag-iiba ang personality. Nagjo-joke pa kami, galit na pala. Nagpa-pump din siya, ng insulin. Divine is respected by our workers as she knows the different phases of construction, but she’s flighty at times. Madalas, nakikipagtsismisan kay Tessa and source ng all sorts of gossip. Tristan is an expert in building cabinets, rooms, kaya lang, he tires easily. Maya’t maya, tulog. As for Tessa, her lively personality is her selling point, but it takes her a long time to think of gimmick para magkakulay ang show.”
And what about Paulo? “His good side is that when we’re all ang gulo-gulo, when he speaks, he’s like a god on the set, grabeng power niya,” says Tessa. “But grabe, ang lakas niya maghilik. Also, sabi niya, loveless siya, but I set him up for a date with a supermodel with an awesome personality, but he stood her up. Three hours naghintay yung girl.”
Directed by Monti Parungao who helmed “Survivor Philippines Season 1 to 3” on GMA-7, “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” will start with daily 10-minute primers on primetime then debuts as a one-hour show on Sunday, April 15 after “Talentadong Pinoy”. It’s obvious TV5 spent so much for it so we hope it really rates high as it’s for a worthy cause.
