GLORIA DIAZ is the country’s first Miss Universe. How does she feel that Donald Trump allowed transgenders to join the pageant? “Well, if the pageant said they’re welcome, e di they’re welcome. But are they gonna allow them to win? And will their country be glad that a gay person will represent them? These are the things to consider. But if their country wants them, who am I to stop them? Mahirap kalaban ang gay people. So many of them are really gorgeous, maganda. Just like before, they didn’t allow retokado, but now, they allow it. So ganun lang yun. Basta ako, I’m glad I’m not retokado,” she laughs.
She plays Ruffa Gutierrez’ social climber mom in “The Mommy Returns”. They’re both beauty queens and Ruffa says she really enjoyed working with the former Miss Universe as Gloria has so many experiences to share with her. Recently, Ruffa’s mom, Annabelle Rama, had a conflict with Gloria and Amalia Fuentes. How did Gloria feel about this?
“I’m already 61 and hindi naman ako tatagal sa showbiz kung papatulan ko ang lahat. At this point, it’s not important anymore to fight it out and prove who’s right. What’s more important is how our daughters would feel about it, Ruffa and Isabelle. I think there’s a slight misunderstanding at sa’kin bale wala naman yun. I think naayos na rin naman. Our children are good friends and Annabelle is just misunderstood. I still love her.”
What’s her wish for Annabelle? “Wala. Just be what she is kasi kung babaguhin niya yun, hindi na siya yun, di ba?” What about for Amalia Fuentes? “For her to lose weight. Also for me, I need to lose weight also.”
