Sineng Pambansa In Davao The Newest Venue For Local Indie Flicks

THE LOCAL INDIE FILM scene is getting more active with the introduction of yet another indie film festival, the Sineng Pambansa National Filmfest organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP). This will be held in June in Davao City, which means it will be held ahead of the Cinemalaya at the Cultural Center of the Philippines that’s held in July. The entries come from all over the Philippines.

Among the entries from Manila are “Qwerty” by Ed Lejano starring Joem Bascon as a cop, “Pauwi Na” by Paulo Villaluna starring Paolo Avelino and “Mga Kidnapper ni Ronnie Lazaro” by Sigfried Barros Sanchez (“Tsardyer”) with Nonie Buencamino, Epy Quizon, Rico Soliman, Mercedes Cabral and Ronnie Lazaro as himself. From Kalinga-Apayao is “Anac ti Pating” by Martin Masadao, from Benguet is “Kanana Kanu” by Jocelyn Banasan Kapuno and there are three entries from the Visayas plus five entries from Mindanao. Let’s hope some of these entries will turn out to be real gems.
