DJANIN CRUZ is the youngest child and only daughter of Tirso Cruz III and Lyn Ynchausti. As we talked to her on the set of “My Beloved”, she’s sleep deprived as her dad turned 60 the day before and his birthday party extended until the wee hours of the morning, then she had to report on the taping. Djanin already finished business management at La Salle when she acted in her first soap in 2010. She now enjoys acting very much.
Does she know her dad is part of the popular love team Guy and Pip? “Oh yes. My mom is a Noranian, so I’m aware how famous their love team was in the 70s.” Has she met Ate Guy? “Yes, noong mag-show sila ng dad ko sa States, kasama ako. We even ate together. But I’m closer to Ate Vi (Vilma Santos) kasi nagpupunta ko sa kanila. Pareho kasi kami naging follower ng first PBB and we’ll watch it together. Hanggang ngayon, we text each other. Sobrang bait niya. I’m also to close to her younger son, Ryan Christian, kasi madalas ako sa bahay nila sa Alabang or sa Batangas.”
So she’s more of a Vilmanian than a Noranian? “Yes, kasi nga, close ako kay Ate Vi dahil lagi kaming nagkakasama.”
She plays Lucy, a friend of Marian Rivera, in “My Beloved”. How is it working with Marian who’s allegedly “mataray”? “That’s not true kasi sobrang bait niya. Noong una, kasi first time ko to work with her, siempre, quiet lang ako, pero na-relax ako agad sa kanya kasi siya pa naunang lumapit sa’kin at lagi siyang all smiles, nagpapatawa, namimigay ng tsitseria sa set.”
Given a choice, she’d like to do contravida roles. “Sa ‘Grazilda’ noon, I started as a contravida but hindi natuloy, so gusto ko talaga mabigyan ng chance to play an out and out villain. Puro mabait roles ang ginagawa ko, e sabi ng mga tao, mukha raw akong mataray, so I really want to try a mataray role, for a change.”
She doesn’t have a boyfriend. “Tuwing may manliligaw, kapag nalamang si Tirso Cruz III ang dad ko, they back out. I don’t know why, e mabait naman si dad ko.”
