Down To Mars, First Inter-Pop Group, Launches Its Debut Album

BILLED AS THE first Inter-pop music group, Down to Mars is composed of 7 very talented Asian-looking young men. They’re the perfect antithesis to all the Fil-Ams and Eurasian mestizos in local showbiz. Four are half-Chinese (Kenji Chua, Yheen Valero, Sky Young, Jang Seung), two are half-Koreans (Kiro Rivera and Jeong Won) and one, Daisuke Hagihara, is half Japanese. But they all consider themselves Filipinos at heart.

They first performed in “Party Pilipinas” on May 22, 2011. To celebrate their first anniversary, they launched their debut album with PolyEast Records last Tuesday and their special guest is the former GMA-7 exec who gave them a break, Wilma Galvante, for whom they composed a song, “Nandito Lang Ako”.

Jang is the most articulate member and he seems to be their spokesman during the launch, but the ones with the most fans are Yheen (a Xian Lim lookalike) and Daisuke. They’re all quite tall, but Yheen and Daisuke are the tallest among them. Looks like they’ve replaced XLR8 in “Party Pilipinas” as the group has disbanded after members like AJ and Aki went solo as actors.

They’ve been composing songs as friends since early last year. Choreographer Geleen Eugenio saw them Daisuke and Jang first in a show on GMA. She was introduced to the other guys and she then brought them to Wilma. GMA Artist Center signed them up right away to a contract. Jang, Kenji and Jeongwon are the composers in the group. Aside from “Nandito Lang Ako”, the other cuts in their album are “My Everything”, “Oh Here We Are”, “Fly” and “Fool’s Paradise”.

Watch out for them as they go to various malls to promote their album, culminating in a big concert in September. Come July, they are going to Korea upon the invitation of the Dept. of Tourism to sing three songs in the National Day of Korea. GMA-7 announced that they will be featured in a sitcom soon, “Tweets for My Sweet”, whose star, Marian Rivera, is a special guest in their music video.

“We’re really thankful to Ms. Marian Rivera for dancing with us,” says Jang. “She did it for free as she believes in our group. Star struck kaming lahat working with her but she’s so down to earth. Napakabait niya.”

They now have fans, called Marsians, as far as Spain, Hawaii, Indonesia and Korea, all active in the Facebook fanpage.
