CONDOLENCES TO the family of the late novelist-scriptwriter, Edgardo M. Reyes, who passed on May 15 at 76. It was in the early 60s when we first read his works in “Liwayway Magazine”. He wrote unforgettable short stories (like “Gilingang Bato”) but he’s better known for his award-winning novels, “Sa Kagubatan ng Lungsod” (about a prostitute, filmed starring Chanda Romero), “Sa Mga Kuko ng Liwanag” (about a probinsiyano lost in the big city, filmed by the late Lino Brocka as “Maynila: Sa Mga Kuko ng Liwanag” in 1976), “Bangkang Papel sa Dagat ng Apoy” (with Erap Estrada) and “Laro sa Baga” (filmed by Chito Rono). He also wrote screenplays, like “P.S. I Love You”, “Hoy Mister, Ako ang Misis Mo” and “Mga Uod at Rosas” starring Nora Aunor and Lorna Tolentino. Let’s pray for the repose of his soul. May he rest in peace.
