ATTY. LOURDES ‘LOU’ Santos-Tancinco has been hosting ‘Pusong Pinoy sa America’ on GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Network’s international channel, since 2006 and it has presented hundreds of cases of Pinoys immigrants whose problems she helped solve. “Immigration problems can be very complex and confusing so we aim to make the law accessible to the ordinary viewer by explaining it in layman’s terms para hindi sila maloko,” she says. “Maraming nawawalan na ng pag-asa after being rejected but we also show them there is always hope even in seemingly worse circumstances.”
She and her husband finished law at the UP in 1987 (movie producer Atty. Jojo Alonso is her batchmate) and they have two daughters. They moved to the U.S. in 1990. “I’ve been an immigration lawyer for 20 years now. It’s really very satisfying for me to help our kababayans to get their green card.”
She was the one who was helping Nora Aunor get her green card when she was imprisoned due to drug charges. The criminal case caused a setback for Ate Guy but she was still able to get her green card. In its new season, “Pusong Pinoy” will feature hard working immigrants and unsung heroes who effectiveloy balance work and family through the segment titled “Sipag at Tagumpay”. There are dramatized portions showing the struggles of the Pahati and Morales families who are motivated by strong family values. There’s also an “Iba ang Pinoy” segment featuring Pinoy achievers in the U.S. like Supreme Court Chief Justice Tani Cantil Sakauye, journalist Ben Pimentel and entrepreneurs Gil Payumo and Evan Kidera. “Visa 101” shows how a Filipino child can be adopted by couples who are U.S. citizens. GMA International VP and Head of Operations Joseph Francia says they’re very happy with the huge success of “Pusong Pinoy”. “It enjoys loyal viewership among our kababayans living abroad,” he says. “More Filipinos will surely be inspired by the new stories we’ll be featuring in its new season shown every Sunday at 6:10 PM on GMA Pinoy TV.”
