TV5’S NEW game show, “Game N Go”, finally starts this Sunday, Father’s Day, so they hosted a lunch presscon for the three dads in the show: Joey de Leon, Edu Manzano and Arnell Ignacio. So how would they describe themselves as a father?
“Mabait akong tatay,” says Joey. “Mahirap na lang magbuhat ng sariling bangko, pero mabait talaga ko sa mga anak ko. Game ako, e. At go nang go. Kaya game and go.”
“I’m still trying to learn, but I’m doing everything to be a good dad,” says Edu. “Eye opener for me when my daughter Adi told me, ‘I don’t see you anymore’. Naiyak ako and since then I’m trying to make up for it and try to spend more time with them.”
“Ako, you can say it’s complicated,” says Arnell. “Kasi I’m both mother and father to my only daughter, Sofia, who’s now 16, a college freshman at University of Asia and the Pacific taking up entrepreneurship, and may boyfriend na.”
Does he know the guy? “Yes, basta sabi ko sa kanya, alagaan niyang anak ko. Kung hindi, kung anong gagawin niya rito, gagawin ko rin sa kanya.”
Edu says his daughter Adi, 19, and taking up masscom at the Ateneo, also has a boyfriend. “Kilala ko rin yung lalaki. Mabait siya, sa ngayon.”
Joey says his three kids with Eileen Macapagal are more engrossed in studying than having a relationship. “Si Jocas, my eldest, ni hindi pa nagka-boyfriend. Nasa London ngayon for her third degree. Yung first two, sa States. Itong third is masters in LBM, luxury brand management. Jaco, the second, graduated sa Fordham and works with TAPE at may show siya sa GMA News TV. Yung bunso, si Jio, is now at Tisch School of the Arts in New York U taking up film and TV. Wala pang gustong mag-asawa.”
How about his kids with Daria Ramirez? “Si Keempee, ayun, ayaw pa ring mag-asawa, but he has a daughter. Si Chenee ang nakakatatlo na and she now has four kids. Ako rin ang nagpapaaral sa mga apo ko.”
What do they think are the chances of their game show against the more established musical shows seen on Sunday noon?
“Hindi yan ang tanong,” Edu quips. “Ang tanong is: anong chances nila sa amin?”
“We’re a very good alternative show doon sa mga sawa na sa sayawan at kantahan,” says Joey. “Kundi sila mag-iingat, mananakaw naman ang audiences nila, lalo na sa panahon ngayon ng remote control na kay dali-daling magpalit ng channel.”
Co-hosting “Game N Go” with them on Sundays at 12 noon are Gelli de Belen and Shalani Soledad.
