TWO TV SOAPS are ending tomorrow: “Valiente” on TV5 and “Dahil sa Pag-ibig” on ABS-CBN. The last one has the biggest stars, led by Piolo Pascual and Jericho Rosales. We feel sad that their show didn’t rate as expected.
At ABS, it’s easy to detect if the show is rating well, it gets extended, just like “Mara Clara” before and “Walang Hanggan” now. “Walang Hanggan” started in January and it will run until October. “Dahil sa Pag-ibig” started much later than “Walang Hanggan” and yet it’s ending now, just like other ABS shows that had short runs, “Wako Wako” and “EBoy”.
This doesn’t augur well for Piolo, whose movie “Every Breath U Take” reportedly also didn’t do as well as expected. It’s apparent that the debacle he had with KC Concepcion really had a negative effect on his career. Hopefully, being paired with Kris Aquino in a new movie about marital annulment would give his sagging career the boost it needs and he’ll finally have a hit. But this would have to wait as Kris will do “Sisteraka” first with Vice Ganda for the Metro Filmfest.
It’s also sad for Jericho whose other shows (“Green Rose”, “I Dare You”) didn’t rate well and recent movies (“I’ll Be There” with KC Concepcion and “Yesterday Today Tomorrow”) did badly at the tills. But it’s good both Piolo and Jericho still have so many endorsements, even if their projects don’t do that spectacularly well.
The taste of viewers for matinee idols really changes fast. It’s now the season of Coco Martin. Who would have thought that someone who has gone bold in indie films and even did frontal nudity will still be embraced warmly by the masa viewers? Coco’s rise to fame is really one of the most amazing success stories in local showbiz.
