EDDIE GARCIA is glad to get universally good reviews for his performance as the grumpy old gay in “Bwakaw”, but he wants to share the credit with his writer-director, Jun Lana. “He conceptualized the whole thing and I’m just so happy to give life to his creation,” he says.
After appearing as the family patriarch in GMA-7’s “Legacy”, he now plays Eula Caballero’s grandpa in the horror-suspense series that airs tonight at 9, “Third Eye”.
After Comedy King Dolphy passed, he’s now only one of the two remaining Sampaguita Pictures veteran stars still active in showbiz. The other one being Gloria Romero. “Magkakasama kami talaga nina Dolphy at Gloria in so many movies we did in the 50s and 60s sa Sampaguita,” he says. “Marami sa kasabay namin doon, wala na, like Luis Gonzales, Ric Rodrigo, Rita Gomez, Van de Leon and others. May they all rest in peace. I myself, I’m ready to go as I’ve long accepted na lahat ng tao, may hangganan ang buhay. When you gotta go, you gotta go pag oras mo na. But that doesn’t mean you’ll just sit and wait, kaya nga I continue to act at an age when most people have already retired. Halos magka-age lang kami ni Dolphy, e. One of these days, for all we know, baka susunod na rin. But I want to go quietly. I have instructions to my family na from my death bed, wala ng burol-burol, diretso na ko for cremation and I want my ashes to be scattered sa dagat. I want people to remember while I’m still alive and active in front of the camera. Kaya that scene in ‘Bwakaw’ where I brought home my own coffin at doon ako natutulog, okay lang sa’kin yun. I’m not superstitious like other stars na ayaw humiga sa kabaong.”
How would he size up TV5 princess Eula Caballero? “She has great potential. We have many scenes together and I can say na magaling siya. And she’s lucky that TV5 is taking good care of her so don’t miss our show, ‘Third Eye’.”
