DENNIS TRILLO has an offer from Director Dante Mendoza to do a horror-thriller, “Sapi”, that he says will be scary not only for the viewers but also for the cast that includes Raymart Santiago, Baron Geisler and Meryll Soriano.
“We’ll participate kasi in an actual exorcism rite of a real life case of possession ng isang evil spirit and that’s what’s going to be filmed,” he says. “Whatever comes out, totoo yun, not staged or scripted. Scary, di ba? You never know what will really happen in the course of the shoot. What kung may totoong sapi na lumabas? But it’s exciting din.”
In contrast, his title role in the Cinemalaya entry “Ang Katiwala” is very quiet. “Enjoy ako as most of my roles, maangas, laging may conflict. This one, malumanay lang. I play a carpenter who lost his job in the province and goes to Manila to be the caretaker of an old mansion I didn’t know is owned by a former president. Quiet films are harder to make than ones na puno ng drama and I admire writer-director Aloy Adlawan as he’s able to sustain the viewer’s interest up to the climactic ending na may twist in the story.”
Will he win a Cinemalaya acting award for this? “It’s not a flashy or showy kind of acting so I don’t know if the jurors would like it. At saka, maraming magagaling na kalaban sa 10 entries sa New Breed category.”
