COMEDY KING Dolphy was laid to rest last Sunday at Heritage Memorial Park. His co-stars and various networks paid tribute to him during his wake. Over the weekend, various TV shows like “Party Pilipinas”, “ASAP”, “Startalk”, “Showbiz Central”, etc. also devoted their shows in paying homage to him.
Some current stars, retired stars and even other non-celebrities who are not even known to be close to him were interviewed and enjoyed the free exposure while they’re shown crying buckets of tears on cam. But no matter how lavish the praises they said, no one can come close to what TV5’s Manny Pangilinan did for the late comedian.
As we all know, when Dolphy’s shows at ABS-CBN were not rating anymore (he even had a show that they shelved, “Utoy”, with Makisig Morales), he was taken by TV5 who gave him “Pidol’s Wonderland”. We’re told Dolphy was being paid his talent fee even if he was not taping for them anymore. Not only that, it was TV5’s MVP who paid for all the accumulated hospital bills of Dolphy, which amounted to a staggering P7 million. Now, that’s the most fitting and expensive tribute that anyone can give to Dolphy, don’t you think so? And we doubt if any other network can top that.
