AGA MUHLACH is aware that some folks look down on movie stars who run for public office. “It’s unfair sabihing artista lang yan, what can he do?” he says. “Kaming mga artista, naghahanapbuhay kami ng tapat. Walang corruption sa trabaho naming magpasaya ng tao. My friend, Governor Vilma Santos of Batangas, mula sa pagka-mayor hanggang ngayong governor na siya, malinis ang record niya. Yun ang puede kong tularan. Those who belittle us are usually the politicians threatened sa pagpasok namin. Lahat tayo, may karapatang maglingkod sa bayan.”
Aga signed up with the Liberal Party at the LP Headquarters in Araneta Center last Friday with LP Pres. Mar Roxas. He’ll run as representative of the 4th district of Camarines Sur in 2013. His wife and son, Charlene Gonzales and Luigi, were there, along with good friends Cesar Montano and Bayani Agbayani. He thinks it’s the right time for him to be a public servant as he believes in Pres. Pinoy’s fight against corruption. But he won’t leave showbiz. He’ll continue to act if there are good projects for him. “Yan ang hanapbuhay ko’t di ko yan puedeng iwanan. I’m joining politics just to serve, to give back, hindi para gawin itong hanapbuhay. And I’m running in Camsur kasi doon talaga galing ang lola ko, daddy ko. For the past so many years, lagi akong nandun, dun ako nagdiriwang ng birthday ko. May bahay ako roon and I promise to do my best para makapaglingkod ako sa mga taga-roon ng taos-puso.”
