DIRECTOR SOXIE TOPACIO has finished three movies as an actor, “Bwakaw”, “Pikit Mata” and “Yak Man (Manyak)”, and he’s about to wrap work for one movie where he’s the director, “Ikaw Na Da Best Ka”, starring Jose and Wally. He’s also directing the hit PETA play, “Bona”, now showing at the PETA Theatre with Eugene Domingo and Edgar Allan Guzman.
“Nakakatuwa, ang dami kong trabaho,” he says.
Folks say he should be nominated as best supporting actor as Eddie Garcia’s parlorista best friend in “Bwakaw” that opens in theatres on September 5. “I’ve directed Eddie before in Viva’s ‘Reyna’ where he played the gay make up artist na father ni Keanna Reeves. In ‘Bwakaw’, first time na co-actor ko siya. We shot it last Holy Week sa San Pablo City and Dolores, Quezon. The film will be shown at the Toronto International Filmfest and the New York Filmfest. Sana, isama nila ako.”
He plays such a villainous role in Ronald Carballo’s ‘Pikit Mata’. “When I was told I’ll play a salbaheng bakla, sabi ko, sige, as I’ve never done that. Sumobra naman ang sama ko. I asked Jay Austria, the lead actor na ihian ako sa bed scene namin. I abuse the men I go to bed with kaya I get killed violently by Romano Vasquez. Dahil daw sa’kin kaya nabigyan ng X rating ng MTRCB ang pelikula. Sa ‘Yak Man’, I co-star with Leo Martinez, directed by Willie Mayo.”
How did he adapt “Bona” from screen to stage? “We updated it. Si Nora Aunor sa movie, poor. Dito, si Uge as Bona, may kaya, call center agent. Si Phillip Salvador sa movie, stuntman. Dito, si Edgar Allan Guzman, artista wannabe who joined a star search kunsaan siya nakilala ni Uge. They are both so good in the play. We also added some characters na click na click naman sa audience. I heard mae-extend kami, but it all depends sa schedule ni Uge who gave us all of August and September.”
