JOLINA MAGDANGAL is the youngest among the mentors in “Protege: The Battle for the Big Artista Break”. “It’s really an honor na maihanay ako with Phillip Salvador, Gina Alajar, Ricky Davao and Roderick Paulate as my co-mentors dahil puro sila respetado,” she says. “I consider this as a big challenge para pagbutihan ko ang trabaho ko in mentoring my own protégés nang hindi kami mapahiya. Happy naman ako dahil very talented ang mga nakuha kong alaga from the Visayas: Zandra Summer and Bryan Benedict from Cebu, Mitch Capili from Tagbilaran, Bohol and Mikoy Morales from Roxas City.”
Fil-Austrian Zandra is 18, from Asturias, Cebu. She auditioned with her brother and his girlfriend, but she’s the only who made it. An HRM student at the University of San Carlos, her favorite celebs are Sam Pinto and her kababayan, Ellen Adarna. “I want to be remembered as someone who always gives her best,” she says.
Bryan is 21 and he auditioned online with a rap number. He has a tourism degree from FEU and works at Waterfront in Cebu. Both his parents are hearing impaired. “They’re my inspiration”, he says. He’s glad to have Jolens as his mentor as she’s very hands on in teaching them. Very athletic, he loves basketball and working out. “Through Protege, I’m hoping ma-develop ako bilang magaling na artista at bilang isa ring mabuting tao.”
Mikoy is 18, sings well and plays musical instruments. “My burning passion is performing and that’s what brought me to Protege,” he says. Mitch is 15, a high school senior in Bohol who went to Cebu to take the audition. She now lives with an uncle in Manila. “Ang edge ko is my singing,” she says. “I’m confident na ito nang panahon para ipakita ko sa lahat ang talent ko.”
Jolens is taking her wards to her tapings for “Daddy Dearest” opposite Ogie Alcasid and to “Party Pilipinas” so they can get an actual feel of how things work in showbiz.
