Benjo, Stephanie And Nicole At The Bottom 3 In The 'Artista Academy' 5Th Live Exams Night

IT WAS THE 5th Live Exams Night at “Artista Academy” last Saturday. The remaining 12 students gave a rousing opening number in raincoats and shades to the tune of the Korean hit “Oppa Gangnam Style” by Psy. 6 of the students were later paired as love teams singing the songs used in Close Up jingles since Close Up is their major sponsor. The best was the duet of Aki Blanco and Marvelous Alejo, simply because they have good chemistry together. Vin Abrenica was paired with Shaira Mae while Chanel Morales with Albert Bruno. Vin and Shaira have little chemistry but Chanel and Albert absolutely have none at all. Chanel is so good she drowned out Bruno totally. After their song numbers, the judges chose their top student and, once again (why are we not surprised), it’s Vin.

The remaining 6 were made to dance. Since there are four girls and only two boys, they were made into a trio of dancers: Mark Neumann, Stephnie Rowe and Nicole Estrada. Benjo Leoncio, Sophie Albert and Malak So Shdifat. Once again, the most praised student is Mark, another favorite of the judges.

There were no acting challenges this time. And when the Bottom 3 were called, once again, it’s headed by Benjo who’s always at the Bottom 3. This time, he’s joined by Stephanie and Nicole, so we have a feeling a girl will be sent home tonight, their elimination night, since the show is running out of boys. Our guess is that it’ll be Stephanie. Somehow, we’ve felt from the start that she’s not one of their faves. But on screen, Stephanie has one of the prettiest faces. Since she’s also very tall and statuesque, our suggestion is for her to join a beauty pageant.

Special awards were given. Bruno was named most improved student while Channel was named most confident performer, which she truly deserves since her projection while singing certainly exudes a lot of confidence, which was the theme of the 5th live exams.

While watching the show, it dawned on us that it’s really unfair for some contestants to be judged in singing and dancing if that’s not their forte. As an “artista”, more than anything else, you are expected to act well, not sing or dance. You might be a great singer or dancer but still, this doesn’t meant the public will accept you as an artista. If John Lloyd Cruz or Richard Gutierrez would join a reality show like this, they’ll never win as they don’t sing or dance well. They hit it big as “artistas”. So we hope the judges won’t give that too much importance on song and dance acts. They have students in “Artista Academy” who excel in that, but have no true star quality as their over all aura are only for supporting actors or actresses. If they’d make these types win, then TV5 can never have endearing “artistas” beloved by masa viewers.
