DONDON MONTEVERDE invited us to his office at PostManila, a post-production house that also houses his movie company, Reality Entertainment. In its plush preview room, we watched how they made their horror flick to be shown on October 16, “Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles”, the first Filipino full length film to be shot entiredly on green screen, the latest innovation in computer-generated visual effects used effectively in such Hollywood hits as “300” and “From Dusk Till Dawn”. It’s truly impressive and spectacular. Watch its official trailer to be launched this Sunday in “Party Pilipinas”.
A co-production with Dingdong Dantes’ Agostodos Pictures, Mothership and GMA Films, it stars Dingdong in a bad boy role as Makoy, a troublemaker who follows his pregnant girlfriend, Lovi Poe as Sonia, to the province where he gets to battle a family of aswangs led by Roi Vinzon, Mike Gayoso, LJ Reyes, Jeff Fernandez and RJ Salvador, nephew of Phillip and son of his older brother Ramon. Playing Lovi’s parents are Joey Marquez and Janice de Belen. The story happens in one day when Lovi and her family get trapped in their home along with Dingdong while aswangs surround their house to attack them.
“This is a ‘siege film’ about two families,” says writer-director Erik Matti. “The human family is under siege by the aswang family. An aswang siege film opens up possibilities to explore not just horror per se, but also go into action, humor, character build-ups and even a love story.”
“Tiktik” is Matti’s comeback vehicle. He has previously helmed “Gagamboy”, “Dos Ekis”, “Scorpio Nights 2”, “Mano Po 2” and “Exodus”. He also made a personal film, “The Arrival”, that never got released but was nominated in the Urian Awards. Aside from “Tiktik”, he has also completed filming “Rigodon”, a sex-drama starring Maxine Eigenmann and John James Uy.
