THE FINAL SIX finalists of “The X Factor Philippines” were presented to the press: the three guys mentored by Martin Nievera: Jeric Medina from Paranaque, Gabriel Maturan of Dapitan City and Kedebon Colim of Cebu; the two girls of Charice: KZ Tandingan of Digos City and Allen Sta. Maria of Nueva Ecija; plus the only remaining group of Gary Valenciano, Daddy’s Home composed of Allan and Herbert Silonga, Eric Dacanay and Jerome Icatar. Pilita Corrales has lost all the 25 and above aspirants she’s coaching.
Each remaining finalist was given the chance to perform and in our personal assessment, the top two should be KZ and Jeric. They’re the total package: can sing well, have appealing good looks, telegenic and have great potential to hit it big.
Let’s face it, TV is a very visual medium. Look at previous winners who made waves for a while but have a hard time maintaining their careers, like Jovit Baldivino and Marcelito Pomoy. Khalil Ramos who’s just a runnerup in PGT is now an even bigger star than the winner in his batch, Maasinhon Trio. But of course, the ultimate judges will be the text voters. They seem to genuinely like Kedebon, who gets a lot of bashing in the internet. He’s short, not good looking and doesn’t really sing that well. His edge is that he’s a natural livewire on stage. He instinctively knows how to make people laugh and he reminds us so much of Elizabeth Ramsey. Even if he’d not win, we think he has a good future as a comedian.
“The X Factor” is ably hosted by KC Concepcion and seen Saturdays after MMK and Sundays after “Sarah G. Live”. You can vote to save a contestant from elimination by texting XF-space- then text the name of your favorite finalist (JERIC, GAB, KED, KZ, ALLEN or DAD then send it to 2331 for Globe and Sun, 231 for Smart and Talk n Text.
