PAROKYA NI EDGAR is one of the most durable acts in local music history. Formed in 1993 when they were students, they still have the same members: Vocalists Chito Miranda and Vinci Montaner, lead guitarist Darius Semana, bass guitarist Buwi Meneses, rhythm guitarist Gab Cheekee and drummer Dindin Moreno. They’re remember for their original rock songs, novelty songs and funny cover versions of foreign songs like “Pizza Pie”. Their first album, “Khangkhungkherrnitz”, was launched by Universal Records in 1996. It was a hit so in 1997, they released “Buruguduytugudunstuy”, also a hit. Since then, they have released 10 other albums. They’ve just released a new one, “Inuman Sessions Vol. 2”. Vol. 1 was released in 2004 yet. Why did it take them so long to do a follow up? “Mabagal kasi kami mag-record,” says Chito, who was last linked to Angel Locsin, now on with Phil Younghusband. What can he say about Phil? “Ang bait ni Phil. Fan na fan niya ako. Nang ipakikilala sa’kin ni Angel, kulang na lang bumeso ako, e. Sobrang mabait siya pag nakausap niya, may British accent nga lang. Alam ko naging issue yung sa’min ni Angel pero wala namang issue kasi sabi pa sa’kin ni Angel, kilatisin mo nga yan. So wala talaga issues sa amin.”
His girlfriend now is Nerizza Naig. Chito admits they’ve all matured. They were just 17 when the band was formed. They’re now in their mid-30s, but the sound of their music remains the same. “Doon kami comfortable, so di na naming babaguhin. And we won’t retire. We’ll continue to play kahit mga lolo na kami.”
“Inuman Sessions Vol. 2” was launched in Eastwood recently and so many of their loyal fans came that 1,500 copies were sold immediately. It has 17 songs and is now no. 1 in Astroplus stores and in mymusicstore. The carrier single is “Bagsakan” which they perform with Gloc 9 and Frank Magalona. Other guests in the album are Yeng Constantino in “Pangarap Lang Kita”, Kamikazee in “The Ordertaker”, Miggy Chavez of Chicosci in “Yes Yes Show”, and Gloc 9 again in “One Hit Combo”. Other great cuts are “Mang Jose”, “Papa Cologne”, “Gitara”, “Sino Walang Alak?”, “Shot!”, “Alumni Homecoming” and “Tatlong Araw”.
