‘Pridyider’ Review: A Much Better Horror Flick Than 'Guniguni'

'PRIDYIDER' HAD a successful premiere night at SM Megamall last Tuesday. Mother Lily is very pleased as it’s definitely a much better horror flick than Regal’s last one, the boring, badly written “Guniguni”. It’s also much better than Director Rico Ilarde’s last horror film, “Villa Estrella” with Shaina Magdayao.

The film, which is NOT a sequel or remake of the “Pridyider” episode in “Shake Rattle & Roll 1”, is shot on HD camera and shown in SM’s digital theatre. The quality of the cinematography is excellent, with the texture, the lighting, the color simply impressive.

Andi Eigenmann gives a fine performance as the bewildered heroine who grew up in the U.S. raised by an aunt and returns home to their old house in Tagaytay to find out what really happened to her parents, Joel Torre and Janice de Belen. She’s living alone and strange things start happening in the kitchen. At first, she thought her mind is just playing tricks on her. She soon realizes that the real culprit is their old refrigerator where scary tentacles come out to claim its victims. The special effects involving the creatures and in the climax where Andi gets into a showdown with her mom at the bottom of a well are all superbly executed.

Andi is effectively supported by JM De Guzman as a childhood friend who becomes her love interest, Joel and Janice as the warring parents, Venus Raj in her first movie role as Andi’s nosey neighbor, and Ronnie Lazaro as the detective who handled the case of Andi’s parents years ago.
