BB GANDANGHARI wants to make it clear that she’s not an official representative of gays. “I don’t want to be part of any organized gay movement as I don’t want to politicize my orientation,” she says. “I have nothing against that, I sympathize with them, but this is more of a personal journey for me. To each his own.”

She’s having a great time playing the role of Michiko in TV5’s hit ecoserye, “Enchanted Garden”, where she gets to don fabulous costumes and hairstyles. “I have my own stylist to take care of my look and outfits, Angela Dominguez, who makes sure fabulosa talaga ang dating ko sa show. High fashion. Pero wait for my return to Eden at magiging Rustom uli ako. May fight scenes ako both as a woman and as a man.”

It’s her birthday on September 4 (he was born as Rustom Padilla in the year 1967) so TV5 presents him a beautiful birthday cake at Annabel’s Restaurant and she gets to blow its lighted candle while everyone is singing the birthday song. What’s her wish? “Sana maging big hit talaga itong ‘Enchanted Garden’ as TV5 is spending so much for it. We’re shown weekdays at 6:30 PM and on Sundays, we have a marathon viewing at 10:30 AM. I’m supposed to go back na to New York as I thought this would run only for 6 weeks, but since extended kami to 15 weeks, I’ll stay here muna kasi I’m enjoying my role and working with my co-stars like Ruffa Gutierrez and Alice Dixson.”

Weren’t they his leading ladies when she was still Rustom? “Yes, I did a GMA telesine and a toothpaste commercial with Ruffa. With Alice, I did ‘Sana Dalawa ang Puso Ko’. But I’ll still have to leave for New York for a go-see in a fashion show, then I’ll return here right away.”

How does her family react to Michiko? “I think happy naman sila. My mom tells me, Napapanood kita. Ang ganda-ganda mo.”

Does she feel awkward when she has scenes with Zoren Legaspi, the current partner of his ex-wife, Carmina Villaroel? “We have no scenes together yet. But I see no reason para maging problema yun since we get along fine.”

What can he say about Zoren’s announcement that he plans to wed Carmina this year? “I’m very happy for them. It’s long overdue since 12 years na sila together and their twins are growing up fast.”

Would he go if he’s invited? “I don’t think they’d invite me and I don’t think I should go dahil moment nila yun, let’s give it to them.”

How about her own lovelife? “Ay matagal nang wala. Tigang ang lola mo. I date but no serious relationship for 15 years na.”

It’s said her last relationship is with a well known actor. “I know where your question is leading but sorry, you won’t get anything from me. The past is past.”

She’s now working with the handsome Daniel Matsunaga in “Enchanted Garden” and it’s said Derek Ramsay would also join the show soon (along with Nora Aunor). Who is more of her type between the two? “They’re so different, isang maputi at isang maitim. Pareho silang pogi. Magiging choosy pa ba ko. Puede bang silang dalawa na lang ang manligaw sa’kin then at saka ko pipili? But I honestly don’t go for just looks. Mas important sa’kin ang ugaling makakasundo ko.”
