ATE GAY admits he’s nervous with his “Ate Gay sa Arena, The ‘Call Me Becky’ Concert’ at MOA Arena on November 30, Friday, 8:30 PM. “It started sa biruan with concert producer Joed Serrano,” he says.
Born as Gil Morales on Aug. 12, 1971, Ate Gay first became part of the Singing Cooks and Waiters. It was Snooky Serna who first told him he sings like Nora Aunor. When did he officially start impersonating Ate Guy?
“It was in 1995, when ‘Flor Contemplacion Story’ was shown.
His guests in the concert are Allan K, Aiza Seguerra, The Company, Aegis Band, Sex Bomb Dancers, the talents of Klownz and Zirkoh, plus Ate Guy herself to whom she’ll pay tribute in “Handog”, helmed by Mamu Andrew de Real.
“I’m really thankful kay Ate Guy na pumayag siyang mag-guest sa show, with the help of Jobert Sucaldito.”
He came to the presscon garbed in a Marilyn Monroe outfit with a platinum blonde wig. What will he do in the show? “I’ll sing my Mashup medley of songs and my declamation pieces na laging hit sa shows ko, I will pay tribute to Ate Guy’s most memorable scenes in the movies at marami pang iba.”
So what’s this feud he’s having with Vice Ganda who said he’ll just talk about it after Ate Gay’s concert? We’re friends. Nag-lunch ako sa bahay niya, nag-malling kami, he guested me sa ‘Gandang Gabi, Vice’, so okay kami. Nagpapasalamat nga ako sa kanya kasi he said willing siyang mag-guest at suportahan ang concert ko.”
But upon the probing of the press, it turned out their gap started when Ate Gay was supposed to be a guest judge in “Showtime” but it seemed Vice Ganda blocked it. Ate Gay’s manager, Freddie Bautista, talks about this. “They called me asking kung puedeng mag-guest judge si Ate Gay. I said yes but di na nila kami kinontak. When I called them, they said nag-inquire lang sila, nothing’s final. It was just a case of misunderstanding.”
At this point, Nixon Cua intervenes and just asks Ate Guy to sing “Pearly Shells”. Tickets to his concert range from only P200 to P2,000, available at SM Tickets tel. 470-2222.
