Boy2 Quizon On Rufa Mae Quinto: 'We're Better Off As Friends'

BOY2 QUIZON is glad that aside from “Bubble Gang”, GMA-7 has now given him a primetime soap, “Coffee Prince”, where he plays one of the baristas in Aljur Abrenica’s coffee shop.

“Ang kakaiba sa role ko is that I’m gay here,” he says. “Which I don’t mind kasi my Lolo Dolphy has played lots of gay roles before. Si Direk Ricky Davao ang nakaisip mag-assign sa’kin nito. Hindi naman ako malanding bakla rito kundi medyo kloseta pa rin. Part ito ng career plan namin ng manager ko, si Tita Malou (Choa Fagar), kaya nga pinagupit din niya yung trademark kong big curly hair. Para naman daw mabigyan ako ng chance to show that I can play other roles.”

Is he also ready to do sexy roles? “Why not? Dati, may offers na, but I felt hindi ako ready. Now, kahit underwear model sa billboard, I feel na kaya ko na. Hindi lang naman si Aljur ang may six-pack abs. Ako nga, 7 or 8 pa,” he laughs.

He’s now more serious with his career. “Dati kasi, parang laro-laro pa. Hindi ako masyadong focused sa acting and I even put up a production house to do work behind the camera. Now I feel kaya ko kahit na serious drama, sa TV man or sa movies.”

Is he now on speaking terms with Rufa Mae Quinto after their reported breakup? “Okay kami. Lagi kaming nagkikita sa taping ng ‘Bubble Gang’ kunsaan 14 years na kaming magkasama, so okay kami. Let’s just say na we realized na we’re better off as friends kaya magkaibigan na lang talaga kami.”
