PROTEGE RURU Madrid is the ward of mentor Phillip Salvador on cam but, off cam, he’s really managed by his discoverer Director Maryo de los Reyes’ Studio 56. “His dad is a former bit player at inilapit sa’kin,” says Direk Maryo. “Sobrang payat kasi 13 pa lang siya noon. Sabi ko, patabain muna. His mother naman is a model from Zamboanga. Pinag-acting workshop ko sa PETA. I saw na malaki talaga ang potential sa acting. When he turned 14, nagkaroon nga ng ‘Protege’ at ipinasok namin. Nakuha naman. Now, he’s the youngest contestant there at, sa tingin ko, malaki naman ang laban. This early, andami na niyang fans, kaya optimistic akong he'd make it.”
Direk Maryo admits he got depressed when “Haram” was cancelled since he already devoted so much time and effort in its pre-prod. But GMA-7 is offering him another show, still starring Dingdong Dantes and Kylie Padilla, with Lorna Tolentino in it. “Haram” is supposed to be replacing “Luna Blanca” later this month but now that it has been cancelled, “Temptation of Wife” starring Marian Rivera and Dennis Trillo will replace it on primetime. Direk Maryo is also in charge of GMA Artist Center Training and Development in charge of honing the craft of their stars. His faculty includes Freddie Santos to teach talents about hosting, Anna Escalon and Yani Yuzon for acting, and Roence Santos for training child and teen actors about creative drama.
