“I’m not a complainer,” he says. “As long as may trabaho silang binibigay sa’kin, okay lang. I was told I’d be given a new game show with Melai and K Brosas so I look forward to that. First time ko maging game show host.”
After being part of the singing group Boysvoyz, he now goes solo as the title-roler in Atlantis Productions' “Aladdin”, his first foray into theatre. “My attitude then sa theatre was it’s baduy. When my sister and I were in Las Vegas, I wanted to watch magic shows but she dragged me to see ‘Phantom of the Opera’. After that, I got fascinated by theatre and started to watch other plays. Dito sa’tin, I first auditioned for ‘Rock of Ages’. I sang ‘Think of Me’ from ‘Phantom, pero sobrang kaba ko so I forgot the lyrics. Sablay. Di ako nakuha. May other auditions after that, but ayoko na. Then ‘Aladdin’ came along and they told me try again. I practiced singing ‘A Whole New World’ from the show at natapos ko naman. But I thought hindi ako nakuha kasi several weeks passed before they informed that I’d be playing ‘Aladdin’. I’m now so excited kasi first time ko nga. Before I came to Manila, I didn’t really sing. That’s why sisters and my mom were so amazed when they saw me singing in ‘ASAP’ at nakakakanta raw pala ako.”
So now, he goes back and forth rehearsing “Aladdin”, which starts showing in November at the Meralco Theatre, and taping ‘Be Careful with My Heart’. How’s it being Aiza Seguerra’s love interest in ‘Be Careful’? “When they first got me for this soap, they told me parang guest lang ako to show kung sino yung father ng anak ni Aiza. Nagulat sila sa reaction ng tao so humaba na yung exposure. It’s great working with Aiza. Bata pa ko growing up in Samar, napapanood ko na siya so starstruck ako when I first saw her. But she turned out to be so humble, so down to earth. I’m learning so much working with her.”
