K-La Rivera Enjoys Flying Magic Carpet Ride With Tom Rodriguez In Musical 'Aladdin' At Meralco Theatre

K-LA RIVERA lost to Angeline Quinto when she joined “Star Power” but later won as MYX VJ. She then started her career as a theatre artist in “In the Heights”, for which she got an Aliw best actress in theatre nomination.

“Although I didn’t win, the nomination is such an honor as it’s just my first theatre appearance,” she says.

She now returns on live theatre in “Aladdin” as Princess Jasmine to Tom Rodriguez’ Aladdin. They’ll get to do the Oscar-winning best song “A Whole New World”. How’s it working with Tom?

“Great! This is his first time to try theatre, so tulungan kami. It’s also fun that alternating in the role of the genie are two very talented people who are so different from each other, Aiza Seguerra and Calvin Millado. We’re really all enjoying working with each other during the rehearsals.”

Although she’s now busy with theatre, she still wants to try acting in a teleserye or a movie, and recording original pop songs for her own album.

“But I know I still have to improve on my Tagalog, like Tom na ang galing-galing na mag-Tagalog ngayon.”

K-La’s mom is Pinay while her dad is Romanian with Iovan as family name. “My family lives in Canada and I stay with an aunt here in Manila. I told them to come to Manila when ‘Aladdin’ opens on November 16 at the Meralco Theatre. I want them see me in the role of a Princess which is really a big challenge for me, plus the flying scenes in the magic carpet that Tom and I really enjoyed doing.”
