THERE’S ONE SCENE in “D’ Kilabots Pogi Brothers, Weh!” that really made us laugh out loud and it features Paolo Ballesteros as Jose Manalo’s gay assistant. He’s fond of quoting lines from past Tagalog movies. Most of them don’t make an impression but when he aped Carmi Martin in “No Other Woman”, with him even doing a rollicking imitation of Carmi’s face, we can’t help but burst out laughing. We hope Carmi will take it good-naturedly.
Another cast member who succeeded in tickling our funnybone is Solenn Heussaff as the daughter of Tirso Cruz III so hopelessly in love with Jose, who pretends to ignore her. Just like in “Boy Pickup” where she also made us laugh as a girl in love with Ogie Alcasid, she once again comes out very funny in her efforts to woo Jose. She does it so effortlessly.
The movie premiered in two theaters at SM Megamall last Tuesday night and it was both jampacked, a clear indication that Jose and Wally do have a following of their own. After all, they also succeeded in filling up the Big Dome with their own concert. An added attraction in “D’ Kilabots” is the many big names guest stars in it, like Vic Sotto as a barangay captain, Maricel Soriano and Roderick Paulate as hotel guests who get into a fight with Wally and Pokwang, Aljur Abrenica and Victor Basa as policemen, Eddie Garcia as the police superintendent, and also Kuya Germs and Michael V. Their riotous appearance alone makes the movie worth seeing.
