NEWCOMER NIKKA Naval feels lucky to have been chosen to play Alfred Vargas’ leading lady in the Andres Bonifacio biopic, “Ang Supremo”. “I heard about 70 girls auditioned for the part of Gregoria de Jesus,” she says. “I was one of the last to audition, the day before the first shooting day, at akong pinalad na makuha. Mahaba yung exposure ng role kasi the film was shot for 15 days and I was part of it for 11 days. I researched on Ka Oriang and learned her parents were against Bonifacio and that she remarried to Julio Nakpil after he died.”
She has never acted before in a role this big. “I used to small parts sa TV at naging round girl din sa Solar Sports on RPN 9. I never thought makakatrabaho ko si Alfred Vargas in a historical movie na he’s the producer. At first, nervous ako but he turned out to be very humble. He never made me feel na siyang producer at tinulungan pa ko to interpret my role well with the help of Director Richard Somes.”
“Ang Supremo” will have its premier this Friday, 7 PM, at SM Fairview and opens in theatres on December 5. It’s also an entry, in competition, at the Cinemanila International filmfest.
